Now available in a can!
A couple months ago I was trawling the aisles of a Japanese supermarket in Singapore. A pyramid of bottles piled high caught my eye. The liquid within was crystal clear. There were pearly spheres floating around inside. I can’t even remember the name of the beverage – it was probably written in kanji anyway. But in english… SHAKE ME! SHAKE ME! SET ME FREE!
Who was I to refuse? Hell, who was I to resist? Bought a bottle, took it home… bloody hell! it tasted… not awful, but wrong somehow. The manufacturers called it a fermented soft drink, and that’s what it was: a sweet fizzy yoghurt soda.

before i had a “blog”, i used to write a sporadically updated letter on the front page of my website. this is one of them. i am consolidating it into these archives, because i can.
I didn’t think so at the time, but now that some time has passed, and the cloud of memory has romanticised the occasion, I wouldn’t mind another.
I don’t know what the point of that story was – maybe it’s just another subconscious reminder to myself that I should learn Japanese so I can read packaging and watch manga unsullied by bad American dubbing. But probably not.
Anyway. Crack open this here can. And remember to shake first.
It’s gonna be wonderful, maybe.
