who doesn’t like new junkfood products? not me, oh no. the other evening i was simultaneously queasy and pleased to walk past a billboard with homer (simpson, not the greek philosopher) advertising a new variety of twisties. the flavour of these twisties was…
i’ll tell you later. but what about the fanta spider? remember way back in april last year, when i was captivated? the fanta people (who i believe are actually coca cola) recently relaunched it: the orange flavour is no longer just orange spider, but choc orange spider. yes! chocolate flavoured fizzy! why is there not more of this?
however, i was distracted by the pink, so i ended up with strawberry spider, which is not a bad thing, because then i ended up with this:
a mini ice cream soda, with chocolate fudge sauce down below, a couple scoops of buttermilk vanilla, and pink fizzy all the way up. i suspect, nellie, it beat that neopolitan frappacino that never was.
and the new twisties flavour? it’s melted butter.

i was so thrown by the concept of the chocolate orange spider, that for a second i read
new fanta flavour? it’s melted butter.
and i swear, i think i was paralyzed for a second.
homer advertising melted butter twisties. i can see how that works actually… the yellow skin and the blue pants … yup, makes me think of melted butter alright 🙂
I can tell you, because I have tasted the neopolitan frap, that your strawberry spider probably tastes yummier. After having the frap a few weeks ago I couldnt help but feeling duped by Starchucks. It felt like their strawb cream frap only with chocolate syrup.
But buttermilk? And vanilla?
Woops. I was meant to add – Inter-esting!
santos: perhaps it’s only a matter of time. there are after all those calpico sodas — the fizzy kind, made by the indonesian branch of aji-no-moto. on the can it reads “fermented milk softdrink”, which i think cuts their potential market in half, but such tasty flavours: strawberry, orange, grape and melon!
the choc-orange spider is pleasant (as pleasant as a jolt of sugar can be), but the chocolate flavour is quite subtle. i would like it to be a bit more like that bottled eggcream i had once in the US.
meanwhile, the idea of the twisties being melted butter flavoured was enough to stop me in my tracks.
hannah: oh, it is so right, yet so wrong. ‘member when homer skips church and stays home and makes that waffle and smothers it in syrup and then wraps the whole thing around a stick of rich creamery butter? that’s what they should make a twistie flavour of.
saffron: yeah, from the picture it did look like it was just a strawberries ‘n’ cream frap with chocolate syrup drizzled on top. which is why i’ve been going the green tea frap instead. oh the lurid colour! oh the intriguing maccha taste!
i like that my spider has the chocolate at the bottom, so at the end you’re left with a puddle of chocolate and melty ice cream. incidentally, the ice cream is streets blue ribbon vanilla. mmm… (you may remember it from the “sundae” post earlier in the year.)

[…] what a bounty of new junkfood products have crossed these lips of late. you may recall the melted-butter-twisties-corn-puffs alert from several weeks ago. i found them, finally. after wrenching the packet open, i realised that […]
