the sticky red “jam” in the complimentary wrapped-in-plastic, homestyle jam swirl biscuit in the minibar of the corryong hotel motel… is actually called “bakers filling (12%)” on the ingredients list. it in turn is made out of sugar, apple, vegetable gum (440), food acid (330), colours (122,123), and flavour.
the biscuit you see above is not it. oh no. this is the european-style monte cream biscuit that i stumbled upon in a marrickville supermarket over the weekend. i was in the bread aisle looking for something tasty, and suddenly this box of pink-filled biscuits was in my arms. i took her home for a cup of milky tea.

mmm love love sandwich style biscuits. have you noticed that coles is getting better with their european style products? or perhaps i am only noticing now.
sadly, my local supermarket is no longer coles. it is woolies, and to make matters worse, balmain woolies, surely the saddest woolies in the history of woolies.
why, what euro-products have you been getting, missy?
Balmain woolies is the crappest woolies in the history of the universe. At least there are other alternatives around.
i bought a packet of matzo and a sour cherry conserve. i tend to reserve baked goods purchases from a deli or harris farm markets
’tis a shame about balmain woolies – much potential there i think.
